Fiery Furnaces Continue Radiohead Rant

American duo Fiery Furnaces have continued their Radiohead rant, with singer Matthew Friedberger also laying into Beck.

What have Radiohead done to become so hated? It seems that a period of unanimous praise must be followed with some slating, with the haters seeming to be coming out of the woodwork of late.

Sonic Youth were the first to poke holes in the release plan for 'In Rainbows' labelling it a publicity stunt that would never work for an emerging group. Lily Allen also took drummer Ed O'Brien for failing new groups, writing a much publicised blog critiquing the FAC's policy on file sharing.

Now Fiery Furnaces have torn the Oxford giants to shreds. Speaking last week Matthew Friedberger criticised the band for releasing the song 'Harry Patch (In Memory Of)' labelling it "bogus".

However it had been believed that the singer has simply misinterpreted the situation, believing the song to be a tribute to an American composer rather than a First World War veteran.

Now the band's MySpace blog has confirmed that it wasn't a case of mistaken identity and that Friedberger was simply "fooling around".

"Like most creative musicians, Matt Friedberger is not a fan of Radiohead and their various chartbusters," the blog begins.

"Of course, Matt never 'misread' any song title, as has been reported. Though he is not very proficient at it, he can actually read. Matt naturally thought it would be interesting to pretend that they wrote a song about the celebrated American composer with a similar sounding name."

"Matt has not heard the Radiohead song about Harry Patch, as opposed to his imaginary one about Harry Partch, but if he did, he is sure he wouldn't like it. No doubt Radiohead and their fans can ignore his opinion of this matter and the band can continue with their triumphant artistic interventions."

Later the Fiery Furnaces star joked about Beck, and his belief in scientology. "Matt would have much preferred to insult Beck but he is too afraid of Scientologists," read the statement.
