Featured Artists Coalition Meeting

Members of Radiohead, Pink Floyd to attend

A new meeting has been called for members of the Featured Artists Coalition with members of Radiohead, Pink Floyd and more expected to attend.

With the continual incursions caused by the growth of illegal downloading, the music industry is in a state of flux. Labels are losing money hand over fist as massive organisations struggle to deal with an ever changing economic landscape.

Set up earlier this year, the Featured Artists Coalition aims to give musicians a voice. Containing some of the biggest names in pop working alongside newcomers, the organisation aims to fight for the rights of those who actually make music.

However a furious argument has erupted between members recently. Lily Allen posted a MySpace blog objecting to the FAC’s stance on file sharing, arguing that it was hurting new and emerging talent.

The blog was met with approval from many different sources, including Patrick Wolf and Muse singer Matt Bellamy – who even invited Lily Allen out to lunch to discuss the matter further.

Lily Allen’s views weren’t welcomes by everyone however. After receiving a torrent of web based abuse the singer deleted her offending blog, and even claimed she was leaving the music industry.

Since then, the Featured Artists Coalition have attempted to defuse the issue by clarifying their position on illegal downloading and by condemning the abuse given to Lily Allen.

A new meeting aims to solve the problem. Organised for October 28th the organisation will meet at the PRS Foundation For New Music’s base in Berners Street, London.

In a debate titled ‘Survival In The 21st Century’ the likes of Marillion and Master Shortie are expected to contribute, alongside prominent FAC members such as Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien.
