Stage collapse in Cape Town
Linkin Park

A fan has died following the collapse of an advertising tower close to a Linkin Park concert in Cape Town.

The nu metal band organised a South African tour earlier this year, containing a few dates across the country. Performing in Cape Town last night (November 7th) the show was marred by a serious incident outside the venue.

According to reports, temporary scaffolding outside Green Point stadium came down in high winds. Security staff dealt with the incident, allowing Linkin Park to progress with the performance as planned. Tragically, 19 people were hospitalised at the event with one person dying as a result of her injuries.

In a statement, Linkin Park expressed their sorrow at the news:

Following our performance tonight at Cape Town Stadium, we were advised that several people were injured as a result of the collapse of an advertising tower erected by Lucozade in the parking area outside the venue.

We wish to express our deep sadness and concern for those injured and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries.

Though we have had no relationship with the sponsor or the entity responsible for erecting the structure, we take the safety of our fans very seriously and our thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this tragedy.
