On the road with Trail Of Dead and Rival Schools

Asobi Seksu have given ClashMusic a series of on the road snaps from their recent tour.

All too often, line ups for live music reflect who can afford to be on tour rather who should be on tour. However a recent series of epic dates demonstrated what can be achieved with a little imagination.

Releasing their new album, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead invited Rival Schools to join them on the tour bus. In a stroke of genius, the bands then decided to ask Asobi Seksu along as well.

The New York based shoegaze outfit had just released their new album 'Fluorescence' which had greatly expanded their sonic palette. Sure, the cover may have been pure 4AD but the music veered from electronics to 60s psych then all the way back to their ethereal dream pop.

A typically strong release, 'Fluoresence' was followed by a brief series of dates before Asobi Seksu were invited to hope on board the tour bus with two rock giants.

Between them, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead and Rival Schools can rip apart any venue. With Asobi Seksu there to emphasise light and shade, the shows rapidly took on a life of their own.

Asobi Seksu singer Yuki Chikudate took along her camera, documenting life on the road. Travelling across the country, the New York outfit recorded their adventures, from onstage drama to resolving the tedium of long bus journeys.

In addition to this, the singer also offered a few pearls of wisdom - such as the band's visit to Glasgow. "When you have two Scottish crew men you spend most of the day going- what!? It was adorable that they clapped and cheered when we crossed into Scotland. We had an epic dinner at STEREO where we were supposed to have some veggie Haggis, but that didn't quite work out as planned as they were fresh OUT. FAIL."

"We got a free dinner from the kind folks at Stereo so can't complain to make up for the debacle. Scots are wonderful people, although I may be slightly biased now as I have probably been brainwashed by our crew...."
