Exclusive: Strokes Man On New Project

Little Joy steam forward...

Fab Morretti may be better known as a member of The Strokes, but with his new project Little Joy the drummer has found a new love for freedom.

The Strokes have been on hiatus since the release of 2005's 'First Impressions Of Earth'. Since then various members have undertaken side projects, with Fab Moretti teaming up with Rodrigo Amarante of Los Hermanos, and multi-instrumentalist Binki Shapiro, to produce Little Joy.

The sparkling trio released their debut album recently, and the band spoke exclusively to ClashMusic about music, their aims and how they love the solo life.

Asked about his new freedom, Moretti says: "Jonathan Richman did it best. He was in The Modern Lovers, and then when he went solo he was like: 'I want to change the picture completely'. I’m not sure we’ve done that, necessarily, or at least not as well as he did. But it’s the same spirit. Why… why… Why have sex with the same person? No, no, I’m kidding."

The debut album was well received, and Moretti is pleased with his new group's debut effort. "My brother said to me: 'At least you’ve made a record that can go both ways. If people are happy they can listen to it as a happy record, and if they’re sad they can listen to it as a sad record.' And I thought that was cool."
