Exclusive: Maximo Park On New Album

Geordie Group Discuss Recording

Geordie punk-funk types Maximo Park have delighted their fans with the news that their third album is set to drop in 2009, and have spoken about the recording process in an exclusive new interview with Clashmusic.com.

The band released previous album 'Our Earthly Pleasures' in 2007, and have spent the bulk of this year writing and recording. Maximo park hooked up with Nick Launay for the new album, which the band have apparently enjoyed. Frontman Paul Smith said:

"He brought a boundless enthusiasm to the process, which can be a bit like pulling teeth sometimes. He told us he really wanted to produce the record and that's very important to us because we don't want someone who's just pushing the buttons, going through the motions."

The band chose a regimental routine to get through those third album blues. The ever creative indie types found themselves with a deluge of new material. As Smith explained:

"It took us a few months to build a studio and get into the swing of things. We realised we were going around in circles a bit, so over summer we wrote a number of new songs and, eventually, we took fifteen songs in and recorded twelve of them."
