Emmy The Great Confirms New EP

Queen Elizabeth Hall date confirms

Acclaimed London songwriter Emmy The Great is set to return to her roots on her forthcoming EP 'The Edwards'.

Emmy The Great began life on the London open mic scene, performing for a close group of friends. Gathering a cult following, the songwriter soon earned acclaim from the likes of Lightspeed Champion and Jeremy Warmsley.

In fact, Jeremy Warmsley previously ran an online music show that featured an early performance from Emmy The Great. Still raw and undeveloped, her evident songwriting talent is obvious for all to see.

Wary of major label intrusion into her art, Emmy The Great opted for the independent route. Debut album 'First Love' was released on her own label Close Harbour, and won critical acclaim for her the depth of her songwriting and her stunning voice.

The album is due to be re-issued with extra material this summer, but before then Emmy The Great is set to re-visit some of her early material. Finding herself being asked for songs she had long since abandoned, the singer decided to re-visit some old material.

Written early in her career yet only recently recorded, Emmy The Great teamed up with engineer Adam Beach to put her ideas down on tape. Artist Edward Forenelies appears on the cover, and is namechecked in one song on the EP.

Containing the tracks Edward, Bowl Collecting Blood, Two Steps Forward and Canopies, the EP is a leap into the past for the singer. "Recording this EP brought back a lot of memories of when songwriting was done on a whim, and before anything got even remotely serious, and it's brought a lot of joy back into my songwriting now" claimed Emmy The Great.

“Siouxsie Sioux once said when she sings her old songs she recognises that they were
naive, but she stands by them, and I feel the same way.”

With a host of festival appearances planned for later in the summer - including Green Man and The Big Chill - Emmy The Great's breezy acoustic pop is tailor made for those lazy, sunny days.

Emmy The Great is due to release her new EP 'The Edward' on August 10th.
