Eminem Praises Run-DMC
In Hall Of Fame tribute
Returning rap megastar Eminem has paid tribute to iconic hip hop group Run DMC while inducting them into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Formed in 1983, New York group Run DMC took rap music away from disco and electro and into a tough, street-driven territory. Changing rap forever, the trio preached a gospel of looking cool, acting tough while also taking care of those around you.
Fiercely intelligent, albums such as 'Raising Hell' had a profound affect on those who first heard them. The young Marshall Mathers was amongst an army of fans, and the rapper made a rare public appearance in order to induct the group into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Eminem made an emotional speech, in which he praised the group as having changed his life. "Something fresh, something tough. Something dangerous. Something beautiful and something unique. Two turntables and a microphone.”
Run DMC are only the second rap group to join the hall of fame, with Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five gaining entry in 2006.
Inducted alongside the group were Little Anthony And The Imperials, Bobby Womack, Jeff Beck and of course Metallica.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of 'Rapper's Delight' by The Sugarhill Gang, the record that arguably took hip hop from the streets and into the charts.
