Auction finds unusual items
A lock of hair trimmed from Elvis Presley has sold at auction for $15,000 during a sale of items relating to the singer.
More than thirty years on from his untimely death, Elvis Presley remains an icon. The King Of Rock & Roll, his turbulent career saw popular music changed forever before his ultimate decline into self parody.
A recent auction saw a number of items relating to the singer go on sale. Up for bidding in Chicago was a lock of hair taken from a vital point in the performer's career.
A rock 'n' roll icon, when Elvis Presley entered the US Army in 1958 fans were shocked. Talked into the move by his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, Presley almost immediately lost all credibility setting his career back by a decade.
Receiving the customary hair cut, a lock of Elvis Presley's jet black hair has survived and has been sold at auction. Ultimately going for $15,000 the hair was sold alongside a number of other strange items.
A set of sweaty handkerchiefs used in Elvis Presley's live shows were sold for $732 while one of the singer's shirts sold for $52,000.
Amounting to 200 lots, the items were drawn from the collection of late fan Gary Pepper. Amongst the more emotive objects were wedding photos of Elvis Presley's marriage - sold for $6000.
The King is crafting hits. Elvis Presley is due to have his career celebrated by a lavish new box set, containing 100 tracks from throughout his turbulent life.
Containing many rare items, the box set is due to be released on what would have been The King's 75th birthday.
