Elvis Presley guitarist Scotty Moore has died.
The musician was the last surviving member of the group who recorded those seminal Sun studios cuts, establishing the DNA for rock 'n' roll.
The Blue Moon Boys – Scotty Moore and Bill Black – were joined by producer Sam Phillips to lay down those legendary singles, including 'That's Alright Mama', 'Heartbreak Hotel' and more.
Scotty Moore worked with Elvis Presley for a number of years, and re-joined The King for his fabled Comeback Special in 1968.
The guitarist's simple yet dexterous lines and electric tone joined country with rhythm 'n' blues, providing the spark for Elvis Presley's seminal performances.
A statement on Scotty Moore's website reads: "Though I had not yet spoken with anyone directly involved and waited to receive reliable information I'm very sorry to have to report that Scotty Moore died early today (June 28, 2016). At this time I have no more details to share but will as soon as I can. We want to thank you all for your understanding at this time."
