Edwyn Collins is working on a new studio album, which has been titled 'Understated'.

Edwyn Collins remains a real inspiration to anyone who has spent any length of time with his music. Recovering from severe ill health, his determination - and that of wife Grace - has had a galvanising effect on those around them.

Which is why it's heartening to discover that Edwyn Collins has almost finished work on a new album. Speaking to 6Music, the songwriter revealed that it is set to have 11 tracks - including two co-written by Richard Hawley.

Approaching completion, the album is pencilled in for January and will be named 'Understated'. No word yet as to which label will be responsible for the release, although Collins' own imprint AED has been responsible for some fine stuff of late.

Meanwhile, Edwyn Collins is also set to be the subject of a new film. Pulse Films are overseeing the production, while James Hall and Ed Lovelace have been brought in to direct the documentary.

Provisionally titled 'Your Voice, In You Heart' work on the film is ongoing. Here's the video for 'Losing Sleep'.
