Editors Set Album Release Date
Third LP due from British group
Brit award nominees Editors have named the release date for their forthcoming album 'In This Light And On This Evening'.
Editors were formed in Birmingham by singer Tom Smith and from the start seemed to have more ambition than their peers. When others were attempting to re-create the dry and arid sound of bands such as Gang Of Four, Editors aimed for a stadium sized vastness.
Signing with rejuvenated 80s indie label Kitchenware the band released debut single 'Bullets'. Catching airplay across the nation Editors started a bidding war that was only ended by the chequebook of Epic.
Editors released their debut album 'The Back Room' in 2005. A huge success, its moody soundscapes sat at odds with many of their contemporaries but spawned the hit single 'Munich'.
Following this shortly after with their second album 'The End Has A Start' the band took a break after Tom Smith's wife (and Clash scribe!) Edith Bowman gave birth.
After the huge commercial success of 'The End Has A Start' Editors have found themselves under pressure to produce the goods. With the United States beginning to warm to their icy charms, the band's forthcoming album could be a make or break point for Editors.
Earlier this year singer Tom Smith revealed that producer Mark 'Flood' Ellis would be rejoining the band for the new album. Editors recently unveiled four new songs at a festival in Switzerland - 'Bricks And Mortar', 'The Big Exit', 'Eat Raw Meat' and 'Papillon'.
In a statement Editors singer Tom Smith claimed that the new album was heavily influenced by the city of London. "I actually think it’s in every song," he said.
"In the right time and place, in the right light and on the right evening, something you have seen 1,000 times before can still take your breath away."
Meanwhile bass player Russell Leetch recently told fans that the album is perfect listening material - for foxes. "The record feels like that hour in the night when the foxes are abundant and the lights are low, driving past the frozen disused warehouses,” he wrote on the band's website.
Editors are set to follow the release of their new album 'In This Light And On This Evening' with an extensive British tour, taking in some of their biggest venues to date.
Editors are due to release their new album 'In This Light And On This Evening' on September 21st.
