On what would have been his 60th birthday

East Village Radio are set to toast the life of Joe Strummer on what would have been the singer's 60th birthday.

It's almost impossible to overstate the impact Joe Strummer had on the punk scene. Arriving at a point when it seemed that London would be overwhelmed with fashion based narcissism, the singer's humanitarian streak shone like a beacon.

Leading The Clash through countless artistic diversions, Joe Strummer seemed to emphasise that punk was a statement of mind, a method of approach rather than any one sound.

Today would have been Joe Strummer's 60th birthday and to celebrate our friends at East Village Radio have lined up a superb evening's worth of programming. Sure, they're based in New York but thanks to the web anyone, anywhere can enjoy it.

Kicking off today at 4pm (EST) or 9pm (GMT) the program will be hosted by Jesse Malin, and features commentary from Mick Jones, Bob Weir, Jakob Dylan, Bob Gruen, Josh Cheuse and more.
