Dr Dre Working With Lil Kim

On long awaited 'Detox' set

Hugely successful hip hop producer Dr Dre has been working on new material with Lil Kim.

Dr Dre is one of the most significant producers in the history of hip hop. The LA based beatsmith has turned the genre on its head no less than three times: once with NWA, again with his G-Funk period and finally with Eminem.

However his production duties have often masked a stellar solo catalogue. Always shy to head behind the mic, Dr Dre is actually a well regarded performer in his own right.

Currently completing his new album ‘Detox’ the set has been delayed by extended spells in the studio. Helping Eminem craft his comeback album ‘Relapse’ Dr Dre again took care of production for recent release ‘Recovery’.

700,000 copies of the album flew of the shelves in the United States during the first week of release alone, a stunning figure for any album. Now Dr Dre has begun to focus on his own career, with ‘Detox’ set to feature work from Lil Kim.

The controversial R&B singer confirmed the new in an interview with Hip Hop DX. “I’m on Dr. Dre’s ‘Detox’ album. I’m really excited about that one,” she said. Lil Kim recently fuelled speculation about a possible team up with Rihanna, after remixing the singer’s track ‘Hard’.

Meanwhile, Dr Dre is continuing to work on material for ‘Detox’. The album was due to drop back in 2004, but has been pushed back as the producer comes up with new ideas.

The release would end a drought of solo material with Dre’s last studio effort ‘2001’ being released more than a decade ago.

Fans were given a preview of ‘Detox’ earlier this year, when Dr Dre allowed ‘Shit Popped Off’ to appear in a high profile advert for Dr Pepper. However little else about the now legendary album is known for certain, with even a release date some way off.
