Grab UK Dancehall artist RTKAL's freestyle over the 'Sleng Teng' riddim ahead of his appearance at Showtime.
UK Dancehall is a strange beast. Waves of immigration from the Caribbean led to Britain developing a severe bass addiction, yet more modern styles such as dancehall and ragga have struggled to gain recognition.
Despite the scene producing some fantastic artists, it seems that all eyes remain on the Caribbean. Respected London based crew The Heatwave aim to change this, taking their Showtime events around the country.
Standard bearers for UK Dancehall, The Heatwave are currently focussing their sights on Birmingham. Part of the 2012 BASS Festival (British Arts and Street Sounds), this latest instalment features West Midlands native Lady Leshurr alongside London guests including Gappy Ranks and Durrty Goodz.
Bringing together artists from across different eras, The Heatwave aim to showcase the way Britain has accepted and re-invented the dancehall sound.
Fancy an example? Rising star of the UK Dancehall scene RTKAL is set to appear at the new Showtime date, and recently recorded a blistering freestyle over the 'Sleng Teng' riddim - one of the foundation stones of digital dancehall.
