Doors Celebrate Morrison's Birthday
Band Unveil Memorial To Singer
Remaining members of seminal '60s rock existentialists The Doors will be on hand to celebrate what would have been singer Jim Morrison's 65th birthday.
Famed for his flowing locks, his obscure lyrics and for hanging out with his wang out, Jim Morrison was one of rock music's ultimate frontmen. His stunning charisma was combined with a voice two parts bluesman and one part crooner. With lyrics that referenced Eastern philosophy and avant garde poetry, The Doors cut through the British Invasion like a chainsaw through butter.
Morrison died in 1971 at the age of just 27. Remaining members of the group Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger will be present at Barney's Balery on December 8th to celebrate their former frontman's birthday.
The event will be broadcast live on radio, from one of the Morrison's old hang outs. According to legend the singer and Janis Joplin used to drink there, before Morrison was banned from the West Hollywood establishment for urinating on the bar.
A memorial plaque will reportedly be unveiled at the point where he urinated.
The event will take place at Barney's Bakery in Los Angeles on December 8th.
