Doherty Talks Libertines Future

Reformed group could work with Babyshambles

Indie icon Pete Doherty has revealed that he believes he can reform The Libertines and continue work with his Babyshambles bandmates.

Pete Doherty has been busy. With Babyshambles working on a new album, the singer has also played a sensational set with his former Libertines band mate Carl Barat fuelling rumours of a permanent re-union.

In addition to this, Doherty has also found the time to record and release his new solo album 'Grace / Wastelands'. As if to complicate matters, The La's singer Lee Mavers has also claimed that he wants to work on new material with Babyshambles, following a series of shows.

Speaking in a new interview with Babelgum, Pete Doherty discusses his new solo single 'Broken Love Song'. However it is not long before the singer begins talking about the possibility of The Libertines reforming.

"Even though people presume that Babyshambles was a substitute band, it existed back in the day alongside The Libertines," Doherty said.

Babyshambles began as a side project during the tail end of The Libertines career, only becoming a fully fledged group in their own right after Doherty left the group. In fact, Babyshambles played their first show together before The Libertines released their biggest hit 'Can't Stand Me Now' in 2004.

"It's not weird having all three (bands) going, it's ideal. It's what I want, just to make music and then perform it or release it in a way that's the most natural", he continued.

Later Doherty admitted that some of the songs he has written must be performed solo, as they are simply too personal for a group environment. "Sometimes doing Libertines songs with Babyshambles just doesn't feel right - for them and for me," he said.

"In the same way that back in the Libertines days…playing certain songs that were all about how much I hated playing song with The Libertines…I wasn't really happy playing (those songs) with The Libertines. I had to get another band on the go."

Pete Doherty is set to release his new single 'Broken Love Song' on July 27th.
