Winter jaunt planned

Electro rock legends Depeche Mode are due to play a series of UK tour dates later this year.

Formed in Basildon, Depeche Mode were amongst the first wave of synth pop stars in Britain. Founder member Vince Clarke shocked the band by leaving after just one album, yet Depeche Mode rolled up their sleeves to become one of the defining groups of the 80s.

A string of hits singles followed, combining Dave Gahan's introspective lyrics with music that flirted with the divide between electronic music and rock. The group developed an industrial edge, resulting in singles such as 'Personal Jesus' - later given the honour of being covered by Johnny Cash.

Depeche Mode are still going strong, and are currently playing massive dates across the United States and Canada. Reviled by the British music press the group bizarrely became hugely influential in the States, where they were name checked by seminal Detroit techno producers the Belleville Three.

The band have finished recording their new album 'Sounds Of The Universe'. Eagerly awaited by their massive army of fans, it is due to be released on April 20th.

Depeche Mode are set to follow the new album with some very rare dates in the UK and Ireland. The group will play the following shows:

10 Dublin O2 The Point
12 Glasgow SECC
13 Birmingham LG Arena
15 London O2 Arena
18 Manchester MEN Arena
