Depeche Mode Thank Wrong Country

Electro rock titans Depeche Mode have slipped up after Dave Gahan thanks the wrong country during a South American show.

Depeche Mode might not be the most credible name to drop in indie circles but outside of the UK the band are practically gods.

Worshipped for their golden run of 80s hits the band then moved into an industrial rock phase, producing the classic 'Violator' album. Spawning the hit 'Personal Jesus' it arguably marked the peak of Depeche Mode as a creative force.

Returning earlier this year with their new album 'Sounds Of The Universe' Depeche Mode launched a massive world tour. Opening with a show in Tel Aviv the band then travelled to Greece for their next show.

However moments before they were due to go on stage singer Dave Gahan was rushed to hospital. Experiencing severe stomach pains the frontman underwent emergency surgery in which doctors discovered he had a tumour in his intestines.

Cancelling a raft of dates, the Depeche Mode star was forced to take time off in order to recover. Battling back from illness, the band completed their cancelled shows in some style playing a spectacular show at London's O2 Arena.

Moving on to South America, Dave Gahan has now committed the ultimate faux pas. Depeche Mode played a show in Lima on Tuesday (October 13th) with the singer shouting "Thank you very much, Chile!" to 30,000 confused Peruvians.

The choice is made even more embarrassing by the fact that Peru and Chile are historically neighbours. The two even went to war back in 1879.

Dave Gahan can take some consolation from being far from the first star to make such as mistake. Alanis Morissette also played Peru back in 2003 when she shouted "Thank you, Brazil!".
