Depeche Mode Documentary Due
Fans flick to get UK premiere
Electro rock overlords Depeche Mode are to be the subject of a new documentary which is due to premiere in London soon.
Depeche Mode emerged from Britain in the early 80s. Mixing electronic music with rock, the band stormed the charts as part of a wave of synth pop acts to emerge as the 80s dawned.
However while some fell by the wayside Depeche Mode's fame only increased, transforming them into one of the biggest acts on the planet. The group were early adopters of the 12 inch single, with many of their expanded mixes becoming the inspiration for techno pioneers the Belleville three.
Since then, however, Depeche Mode's star has dimmed somewhat although they retain a passionate following across the globe. Capable of filling stadiums in almost every country on the planet, the band's recent tour was an action packed affair.
Promoting their new album, the 'Sounds Of The Universe' tour got off to a good start before singer Dave Gahan fell ill. Details were kept under wraps, but when the frontman left hospital it was revealed he had a tumour removed from his stomach.
Returning to action in record time, the singer led Depeche Mode through a hectic schedule of re-arranged tour dates. Now a new film about the group's long suffering fan base is set to premiere in Britain.
The Depeche Mode film is directed by Nick Abrahams and Jeremy Deller, with the premiere taking place at Clapham Picturehouse on December 1st.
Following the documentary a Q&A session will take place with the film's directors and a number of special guests. It has not been revealed if Depeche Mode themselves will be taking part.
