Death Cab On World Domination
Exclusive: US Icons Speak To Clash!
Death Cab For Cutie have had an incredible year, scoring a US number one album, touring the world and now, to top it all off, giving a revealing new interview to Clashmusic.com!
The band formed in 1997 in the small town of Bellingham, Washington. Beginning as a solo project for Ben Gibbard the band have steadily grown over the course of a decade until recent album 'Narrow Stairs' hit the prized US Billboard number one slot back in May.
Not only was it the band's first number one but it was also seminal label Sub Pop's first ever number one as well. In the words of Chris Walla "it’s been a really interesting year. This IS world domination."
However the band have been careful to keep their feet on the ground, telling Clashmusic.com that "I think it’s all about little goals. It’s nice to be validated for the work that you do, but it’s also important to remember it’s still an adventure for us, with every day full of new experiences. Every day is different to the previous day. Those are the things that hold the band together. I think we’re chasing quality. There’s a little bit of Icarus in us…"
Signed to Atlantic, the band are keen to talk about their roots in the Pacific North West. "You’re really isolated in the northwest, and I think that’s why the scene has come to be so specific, and in-bred. Even bands that don’t have a lot in common musically, there’s a kinship."
