Dave Grohl Working On New Supergroup
With Josh Homme and John Paul Jones...
News has reached ClashMusic of a new supergroup starring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and one time Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones.
The age of the supergroup seems to have returned. With The Dead Weather launching earlier this year, it seems that musicians aim to battle the credit crunch by pooling their talents. In a surprise new move it seems that Dave Grohl is set to unveil a stunning new group.
There have been rumours of the trio working together since 2005, but American magazine Antiquiet recently ran a feature breaking news about the new group. Dave Grohl is apparently in the studio with Josh Homme and John Paul Jones, making for the hardest rocking power trio of all time.
Grohl has worked on Homme's Desert Sessions before, while the drummer was touted as a potential replacement for John Bonham in the Led Zeppelin re-union. Of course, that re-union came to nothing, although the legendary band did re-unite for a show in memory of their former Atlantic boss Ahmet Ertegun.
According to reports, the three talents are working together in a Los Angeles studio with new material said to be forthcoming.
Despite remaining tight-lipped about their plances, Josh Homme's wife Brody Dalle has indicated that she has heard some of the trio's initial recordings.
I'm not at liberty to talk about it… but I think (the group) is pretty fucking amazing," she declared. "Just beats and sounds like you've never heard before.”
Dave Grohl has plenty of free time on his hands. Foo Fighters went on hiatus last year, leaving the drummer free to start new projects. Meanwhile Queens Of The Stone Age singer Josh Homme is due to follow in the footsteps of guitarist Dean Fertita who has joined The Dead Weather.
The new trio have not given their project a name, with no release date given for new material.
