Dave Grohl On Foo Fighters Best Of

Rock hero Dave Grohl has claimed that Foo Fighters recent 'Best Of' is like an "obituary" for the band.

When Nirvana imploded following Kurt Cobain's tragic suicide, few expected drummer Dave Grohl to emerge as one of American rock music's most talented and best loved figures.

Secluding himself away in the studio Grohl wrote and recorded every part of the band's debut album himself. A global hit, Foo Fighters were formed in order to tour the album and have progressed to become one of America's biggest exports.

Currently on hiatus, Dave Grohl is concentrating on his drumming duties in supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.

However the singer recently got back behind the mic to promote a new Foo Fighters 'Best Of' celebrating the band's fifteen year career. Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, though, Dave Grohl didn't seem entirely happy with the prospect.

"It still seems premature because we're still a functioning, active band," he said. "Those things can look like an obituary. We were asked to do this a long time ago. We wrote it into a deal a long time ago – that's how it works."

Continuing, the Foo Fighters singer claimed that: "They (Sony) started asking about four years ago, and we said, 'Don't we need some hits?'"

"It's like a CliffsNotes (study guide) version of what we've been doing for the last 15 years. I think there are better songs than some of those."

Foo Fighters 'Best Of' is out now. Them Crooked Vultures are set to release their debut album on November 17th.
