Dave Grohl For Nick Drake Album

Tribute album announced

News has reached us of an intriguing new Nick Drake tribute album that is set to feature American grunge heroes Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder, amongst others.

Emerging from the British folk scene of the late '60s, Nick Drake's jazz-influenced picking and hushed vocals made little impact on the mainstream in his own lifetime, but his material has since been celebrated. After three albums of stunning songwriting he died in 1974 at the age of just 26.

Now widely regarded as one of the best folk songwriters to have picked up a guitar, Drake will be the subject of a new tribute album organised by American artist Jack Johnson.

Foo Fighters frontman and former Clash Magazine cover star Dave Grohl will contribute a track, while Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder is also set to appear.

The album is also set to be accompanied by a DVD, which includes a video for Nick Drake's song 'Black Eyed Dog' shot by the late actor Heath Ledger. The song is widely thought to deal with Drake's own depression.

The Nick Drake tribute album will be released later this year on Jack Johnson's own record label.
