Exclusive: More material due

American songwriter Daniel Johnston could be set to shock fans after revealing to ClashMusic that he is working on a new album.

Daniel Johnston is the cult hero's cult hero. Hailing from Texas the songwriter has battled schizophrenia for almost three decades, becoming a hugely respected musician and artist in the same period.

Returning this year with his new album 'Is And Always Was' Daniel Johnston is set to introduce fans to a slick new sound. Together with producer Jason Faulkner the singer has crafted one of his most coherent statements to date.

Poppy and at times even slick 'Is And Always Was' nonetheless has the indelible mark of Daniel Johnston all over it. A hard worker, Daniel Johnston recently spoke to ClashMusic and revealed that he is set to release a new album early next year.

"You know we’ve got a new album coming out soon? Called ‘The Death Of Satan’. With my band Danny And The Nightmares. We’re very excited about that. It's my old group here in Texas and we’ve played together for a long time" he explained.

"We’ve been together for like eight years, and this is our most professional release. I enjoy it very much I think people will like it a lot."

Asked where the title 'The Death Of Satan' came from Daniel Johnston simply laughed and said "I don't know".

The singer is also set to tour the UK later this year, with Daniel Johnston promising a few surprises. "I really enjoy going there. We’ll put a band together when we play. You never know sometimes we do Beatles covers for a little fun. It depends what songs the band want to play."

Daniel Johnston is set to release his new album 'Is And Always Was' on November 2nd.
