Conor Oberst Free Show

Alas, it's in New York

One of America's most renowned songwriters, Conor Oberst is set to launch his new album with a free show in New York.

Conor Oberst seems capable of producing killer songs at will. Honestly, lock the man in a room for two hours and he would emerge with an album. His latest project involves his new backing group The Mystic Valley Band, formed from the ashes of Bright Eyes.

Taking a new Americana direction, Conor Oberst released his debut album with the Mystic Valley Band last year. The songwriter promoted the album with a series of UK dates, including a frankly bizarre appearance at Scotland's Connect festival where he told the assembled crowds he was from "the United States of motherfucking America".

The singer will headline this year's River To River festival in New York. The event is an annual shindig that takes place in the city's historic Battery Park. This year, however, instead of picking up tickets in advance the event is not ticketed, enabling fans to turn up on first-come, first-served basis.

Conor Oberst is preparing to unleash his new album 'Outer South'. His second with the Mystic Valley band in tow, ClashMusic has already heard the new record and it is just as impressive as the debut.

Joining Oberst at River To River this year will be Jenny Lewis. The event mixes classical with popular music and rock, with the line up also boasting performances from Brian Stokes Mitchell and Ian Hunter.

According to the press release, the event will begin on May 31st with the Bang on a Can Marathon at the World Financial Center. Whatever that is.

Conor Oberst will perform at the River To River festival on July 4th.
