Conor Oberst For Outside Lands

San Francisco event expands

One of the biggest music events in the United States has expanded yet again, with Outside Lands adding Conor Oberst and Bat For Lashes to its line up.

Held in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, Outside Lands steps into the footsteps of the free loving hippy generation. San Francisco was ground zero for the love in movement, and remains a bastion of free thinking in America.

Outside Lands is a three day event which showcases the best musical talent from the United States and beyond. Previously announced headliners include Beastie Boys, TV On The Radio, M.I.A. and Pearl Jam.

That is, if Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament has recovered from a recent serious assault outside of the band's recording studio. The grunge giants are currently working on a new album with producer Brendan O'Brien at the helm, and could well debut new material at the West Coast event.

Amongst the new additions to the line up for Outside Lands are Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band. Now free from the shackles of Bright Eyes, Oberst had formed a new group whose second album 'Outer South' is available now.

A rollicking, ramshackle ride through American music 'Outer South' is a sprawling testament to Conor Oberst's songwriting talent.

Joining Oberst on the bill is Mercury nominated dreamer Bat For Lashes. New album 'Two Suns' is the group's first in three years but has lived up to substantial hype. A spectral piece of music, the album was pushed into the UK Top Ten by expectant fans eager to discover the latest stage of Natasha Khan's creative voyage.

Other acts confirmed for the Outer Lands festival include Brasilia legends Os Mutantes. The cult psych oddballs will be joined by the likes of Calexico, Ween, Mastodon, The Dodos and - if we're reading this correctly - Tom Jones.

Tom Jones? Oh well, the Welsh crooner's Glastonbury set is legendary, with the singer himself pleading to play again, so perhaps this isn't as strange as it appears.

Outside Lands is due to take place between August 28th - 30th.
