Coldplay Snubbed By MTV

Greatest albums countdown begins

A new countdown to find the greatest albums released since 1981 has begun on MTV, and will controversially snub both Coldplay and Madonna.

Launching in 1981, MTV brought about a revolution in music. Gone were the days of worrying how a single would sound on FM radio, or whether the music press would take to it. In their place came stylists, video directors and snappy clips of bands cavorting on yachts.

An MTV insider claims the new list has controversially snubbed both Coldplay and Madonna, despite being staples of the channel. Broadcast on MTV, MTV2 and MTV Base the list will cover all genres.

Jasmine Dotiwala, head of MTV Base, wrote in a blog: "Myself and MTV Base's Trevor Nelson tried to remain unbiased, but we couldn't help putting our own views in when we really had to!

"Things really got heated when someone declared that So Solid Crew should be in the top 10. I cracked up! I agreed that So Solid beat down doors and brought a never seen before movement to the UK. But a classic album?"

Amongst the acts believed to be included are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mariah Carey, Craig David and Take That. Sounds enthralling.

The weekend long countdown takes place this weekend over MTV, MTV2 and MTV Base.
