Coldplay Scoop Juno Award
Full winners revealed
Canada's biggest music award ceremony the Juno's took place last night (March 29th) with Coldplay scooping the 'Best Album' gong.
Long regarded as a musical back water, acts such as Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Stars and many more have made Canadian music a by-word for excellence. Where it was once associated with snow, Mounties and 'Due South' Canada is now linked to some of the most forward thinking music on the planet.
The Juno Awards are a celebration of this rapidly evolving and changing music scene, helping raise the profile of new acts and reward more established musicians.
Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends' has scooped the 'Best International Album' award at this year's ceremony. In Canada, just like everywhere else on the planet, the album was a massive success going on to become one of the year's best selling records.
However the big winners on the night were Nickelback. The rockers won three awards, the most of any act at the ceremony. Amongst the awards the band claimed were Best Album, Group of the Year and the Fans' Choice of the Year.
Singer Chad Kroeger was obviously over the moon, describing the success as "absolutely amazing".
Elsewhere at the ceremony Lights and The Stills both won new act awards, proving that Canadian music is still in a healthy state, while Kardinall Offishall won Single of the Year.
It was a poor night for Celine Dion however. The veteran warbler failed to pick up any awards, despite being shortlisted in three categories.
