Coldplay Praise Kanye West

Chris Martin on album plans

British globe trotting stadium rockers Coldplay have praised rapper Kanye West, claiming his confidence has inspired them.

Coldplay have soared into the upper stratosphere of the music industry. Recent album 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends' was a massive success, topping charts across the world. Since then the band have bagged a Grammy and toured the world, all the while fighting a plagiarism case.

American guitar fiddler Joe Satriani claims that the band's title track is remarkably similar to his 2004 song 'If I Could Fly'. A legal case ensued, with the musician attempting to deliver court papers to the band in person at the Grammy Awards ceremony.

It seems as if this has propelled the band into writing new material. In a recent interview drummer Will Champion claimed to be experimenting with bizarre new time signatures, using a drum machine to achieve dramatic new affects.

In a new interview singer Chris Martin claims that rapper Kanye West's confidence has been inspiring the band to new heights.

“That's what I really admire about Kanye. Because for all the flak he gets, I feel so inspired by his confidence,” Martin told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“He knows that there's been all this history of music, but he still believes he can do something that no one else has done."

"That, for me, is a liberating idea.”

Coldplay are currently playing a number of tour dates in the United States, with the band recently releasing a live album titled 'LeftRightLeftRightLeft'. Recorded on the current tour, the material will be given to fans for free.

However Chris Martin also revealed that he is eager to begin writing new material. "We spend an awful lot of time creating. Maybe it's because we're about to turn 33, but I just feel hungry to write all the time,” he said.

"I think at the end of this tour, we may not tour for a while. We may put out a record without quite so much fanfare."

"I think the next one will be quite stripped-down and based upon this story idea which I can't talk about because it might be bad."

Coldplay are due to play a number of UK dates later this year, including a special show at London's Wembley Stadium with Girls Aloud. The band are expected to head back into the studio for sessions with Brian Eno later this year.
