Coldplay's Chris Martin To Retire?
Singer Talks Success
Coldplay singer Chris Martin has reflected on a memorable year by suggesting in a new interview that he may well retire at the age of 33 - just two years away!
Coldplay have soared from success to success this year with their planet slaying fourth album 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends'. Topping the charts in 36 countries, the album sold by the bucketload being named the best selling release of 2008 at the recent WMA's.
In a new interview Chris Martin has downplayed the success, claiming they had only dominated the year as rival groups had taken the year off. "The reason we're the biggest band in the world at the moment is because the others are on holiday. That's how you get your breaks. That's how the understudy gets his opportunity. While U2 and Green Day are away, we've gotten to make the most of it."
Martin then added that he felt he was becoming too old to be touring the world saying "I'm 31 now and I don't think bands should keep going past 33."
"So we're trying to pack in as much as possible. Up until the end of next year, we'll just go for it in every sense. I don't believe in time off. We've still got our own hair, we can still fit into our musical trousers and we've got to make the most of that."
Two words mate: Leonard Cohen.
