Legendary British entertainer passes away...

Legendary British entertainer Cilla Black has died.

The singer and TV presenter – real name Priscilla White – passed away in Estepona in the Costa del Sol region of Malaga.

The entertainer's agent Nick Fiveash confirmed the news: "It is with deep sorrow that I confirm… the passing of singer and TV personality Cilla Black.”

Cilla Black started her career in music as the hat check girl at Liverpool's epochal Cavern club. Her star quality evidently shone through and, with Beatles' manager Brian Epstein guiding her career, Cilla soon took the charts by storm.

Two number one hits in 1964 kicked off a successful decade for the singer, with Cilla Black then making the change over to television as the 70s dawned. Lauded for her roles hosting ITV's Surprise Surprise and Blind Date, her easy-going charm spawned a number of catch-phrases.

A host of figures are paying their respects to the singer, with Sir Paul McCartney commenting: "Such a shock to hear about Cilla's passing. She was a lovely girl who infected everyone with her great spirit.”

"From first meeting her as a cloak room girl at the Cavern in Liverpool, to seeing her many times since, she always had a fun-loving dignity that made her a great pleasure to be around."
