Chart Round Up - September 8th

Kay Perry At Number One
_original
Californian singer Katy Perry sits at number one with her single "I Kissed A Girl", according to the latest UK charts released on September 7th.

The singer has shot to fame with the ever so saucy "I Kissed A Girl" - the finest exploitation of gender in pop music since Russian group Tatu. Elsewhere in a top ten relatively barren of Clash endorsed talent, Scots hairy rockers Biffy Clyro are at number eight with new track "Mountains" while The Verve remain in the top ten with "Love Is Noise".

Astonishingly, Coldplay are still riding high with "Viva La Vida" currently at 13, while fellow nice men of rock Keane are at 23 with "Spiralling". The late summer rot has set in to the singles chart, with most of your favourite band's too busy scaping the mud off their wellies to release any 45s.

The album chart, on the other hand, makes for more enlightened reading. The Verve remain at number one, as first album in a decade "Forth" beats Michael Jackson's new retrospective "King of Pop". Coldplay fall to number nine, beaten by mask wearing metal merchants Slipknot whose new album "All Hope Is Gone" zooms in at number eight.

Further down the charts The Chemical Brothers celebrate their career with "Brotherhood" (number 11) and UK hip hop legend Roots Manuva hits number 22 with new LP "Slime And Reason".
