Camden Crawl Round Up
Babyshambles, Kasabian and more
The Camden Crawl is one of the year's most anticipated music events and last weekend's debauchery saw thousands of fans descend on London for special performances by the likes of Kasabian, Lee Mavers and more.
Founded a decade ago, Camden Crawl has grown from a handful of gigs in a few London pubs into one of Europe's most important music events. Capable of making or breaking a band's career, recording contracts are drawn up and ripped apart in the toilets while the group play onstage.
This year one of the biggest talking points was former La's frontman Lee Mavers who played a secret show with members of Babyshambles and former Dirty Pretty Things singer Carl Barat.
Of course, Lee Mavers and Pete Doherty are big chums, with Mavers planning to record with the Babyshambles singer. However this is the first time the Liverpool legend has taken to the stage with Carl Barat, who recently played his first UK headline solo dates.
The event also saw performances by the likes of Madness and Graham Coxon. The Blur guitarist's new solo album 'The Spinning Top' is due to be released soon, and Coxon took the opportunity to play a short set in the tiny Camden pub The Spread Eagle. A homage to the pioneering British folk artists of the late 60s and early 70s, Coxon played tracks from 'The Spinning Top' to just 100 lucky fans.
Leicester indie giants Kasabian were chosen to close the event, with the band taking to the stage at The Roundhouse. Playing tracks from their new album 'West Rider Pauper Asylum' the band performed a crisp ten song set while being watched by a typical Camden crowd which contained the likes of Miles Kane, Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof.
This is just the beginning of a busy period for the group, who are also set to play Brighton's The Great Escape shortly before heading out on a UK tour.
