First nominees unveiled

The nominations for the first ever Music Producers Guild Awards have been announced, with Bernard Butler and Mark Ronson among those on the shortlist.

The first awards of its type, the Music Producers Guild aim to celebrate excellence and innovation in the field of music production. Amongst the awards are Producer Of The Year and The Joe Meek Award For Innovation In Production.

Bernard Butler is up for Best Newcomer due to his work with Duffy, Black Kids and Tricky. He'll face stiff competition, however, from Bloc Party cohort Paul Epworth, who has a fast rising reputation.

Up for the main Producer Of The Year award are heavyweights such as Brian Eno and Steve Mac, alongside the afore-mentioned Butler. Eno is nominated for his work on the Coldplay album 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends'.

The 2009 Music Producers Guild Awards takes place at London's Cafe de Paris on February 12th.
