New single confirmed

Buraka Som Sistema are set to release their new single 'Hangover (BaBaBa)' on June 6th.

Emerging from Lisbon, Buraka Som Sistema merged European dance music with African rhythms. In love with the sounds of Kuduro, the group exploded with their debut album back in 2008.

Since then, the collective have focussed on side projects. Producing their own tracks, founding their own label it seemed that Buraka Som Sistema were keen to do anything which wasn't Buraka Som Sistema.

Now, though, the Portuguese group are set to return. Announcing details of their comeback single, Buraka Som Sistema will drop some heavy Kuduro beats with the release of 'Hangover (BaBaBa)'.

The group's first track without a guest MC, the new cut was inspired by a trip to Africa. Visiting some of their favourite Angolan producers, DJ Znobia dropped the group a few brand new cuts.

As Buraka’s Kalaf Ângelo remembers, “He played us one of his tracks featuring Nacobeta, a local MC, where he used this hook and it immediately got our attention! We then used it in some of our early shows and the crowd loved it because of its simplicity and raw energy. While working on the new album, the beat we produced with Stereotyp had that same energy so it made perfect sense to bring it back for the chorus and close the cycle.”

Continuing, J-WOW explains that Buraka Som Sistema wanted to capture a club vibe. “This is how we see club music and this is what we like to hear when we're out late at night" he explained.

"We wanted to capture the (not so) classic kind of sing-a-long vocal club melody and smash it against the most genre-bending futuristic instrumental we could think of. It's not House, it's not Dubstep, it's not Techno and it's not even Kuduro.”

Featuring a host of guest remixes, the upcoming single is the first track to be drawn from the group's new album.

Buraka Som Sistema are due to release 'Hangover (BaBaBa)' on June 6th.
