Featuring Julian Casablancas, Florence Welch and more...

An all star tribute to legendary rock 'n' roll pioneer Buddy Holly has been announced, featuring Julian Casablancas, Florence Welch and more.

Buddy Holly was just 22 years old when he died. Perishing in a tragic plane crash back in 1959, his music is still instantly recognisable to fans across the world with countless artists paying homage.

The singer's music seems to have enjoyed a boost in visibility of late. Featuring extensively in the hit film 'Juno', Jack White also played a Buddy Holly cover during an impromptu visit to SXSW recently.

Now Buddy Holly's music is set to feature on a new tribute compilation. 'Rave On Buddy Holly' is a new nineteen track album which includes some potentially very exciting renditions of the Texan rocker's output.

The Black Keys are due to provide a rendition of 'Dearest' which will no doubt contain some deeply tender guitar playing. Fiona Apple appears on 'Everyday' while Sir Paul McCartney adds a version of 'It's So Easy'.

Cee-Lo Green is due to perform '(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care' while Florence & The Machine tackle 'Not Fade Away' - once covered by a young Rolling Stones.

Elsewhere, My Morning Jacket will blast through a potentially interesting version of 'True Love Ways'. Given that Jim James could sing the phonebook and we'd be impressed, this should be right up our street!

Lou Reed tackles 'Peggy Sue' while Karen Elson will record a new version of 'Crying, Waiting, Hoping'.

Due to be released in the United States on June 28th, the Buddy Holly tribute album will be handled by Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group. A British release has yet to be confirmed, but hopefully will emerge shortly.
