Broken Social Scene Return
New album in the pipeline
Seminal Canadian outfit Broken Social Scene are to release their first new album in five years.
Broken Social Scene have helped to change the shape of Canadian music. The loose knit collective have released a string of celebrated albums, with their relationships and solo projects producing countless more.
In charge of the Arts & Crafts label, Broken Social Scene have been silent as a cohesive entity since 2005. Now Kevin Drew has revealed details of the band's forthcoming new album, featuring a raft of guest stars.
Written and arranged by the central six piece, the as yet untitled new album features a raft of guest appearances. Returning stars such as Leslie Feist, Stars' Amy Millan and Evan Cranley, Metric's Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw will be familiar to anyone with a passing interest in Canadian music.
Also due to appear on the album are the likes of Do Make Say Think's Ohad Benchetrit, John Crossingham, Marty Kinack, Julie Penner and many more.
Produced by John McEntire, the album is the first fruits of this new partnership. McEntire is a member of post rock dons Tortoise and has previously worked with groups such as Stereolab and Scotland's own Teenage Fanclub.
Recording was split between Chicago and Toronto, but does not feature former producer Dave Newfeld - credited with helping to shape the band's breakthrough 2002 album 'You Forgot It In People'.
Due for release later in the year, Broken Social Scene have confirmed a few very special European dates ahead of their new album. Dates are as follows:
May
13 London Brixton Academy
14 Minehead All Tomorrow's Parties
17 London Heaven
18 Amsterdam Melkweg
19 Cologne Burgerhaus Stollwerck
21 Paris La Maroquinerie
