The nominations for BRITs Critics Choice Award 2013 have been announced, with AlunaGeorge, Laura Mvula and Tom Odell set to battle it out for the trophy.

Love them or loathe them, the BRIT Awards remains one of the most high profile music ceremonies on the calendar. The Critics Choice award is more contentious than most, with high profile figures from the music industry giving their tips for the top.

Set to return in 2013, the nominations for the BRITs Critics Choice Award are in. Announced this morning, AlunaGeorge, Laura Mvula and Tom Odell are set to battle it out for the trophy.

Reacting to the news, the nominees said:

"We both feel incredibly honoured to be shortlisted for this award. Completely blown away, it's a great feeling to have our music recognised in such a big way. 2013 is going to be an incredible year for UK music"

Laura Mvula
"Wow, I'm speechless! It's unbelievable and I'm in total shock. I don't think I've experienced this kind of shock before. It's such a huge honour to be included in this prestigious shortlist, I don't think that I can put it in to words. Thank you"

Tom Odell
"I'm thrilled to be nominated and I feel privileged to be in the same company as previous nominees of the caliber of Adele, Emeli Sande, Michael Kiwanuka and Florence."

The winner of the BRITs Critics Choice Award 2013 will be announced on December 20th.
