Bonobo is set to helm the next instalment of the 'Late Night Tales' mix series.
Bonobo is perhaps best known for his production work. The Ninja Tune mainstay returned with new album 'The North Borders' earlier this year, a beautifully varied, languid piece of music which fuses bass textures with a flexible, near jazz aesthetic.
Well, Simon Green is also a widely respected DJ. The producer has been invited to helm the next instalment of 'Late Night Tales', and Green has responded with a deft, inventive mix.
"The way I approached this mix was very different to how I would normally do a mix" he explained. "I wasn’t thinking of it as a DJ mix so much as a selection. I’ve been familiar with the series for a long time, and I was conscious of that, but I really wanted to put together a curated selection. The criteria for choosing the songs was really music I’ve been playing at my house over the past 15-20 years. So there’s a wide variety of stuff on here, from neo-classical to breaky things. The classical stuff, in particular, I’m obsessed with and I’d quite like to have a go at something like that myself, but here I’ve included Matthew Bourne, Bill Evans and Dustin O’Halloran."
As per tradition, Bonobo have contributed a cover version to the mix - choosing Donovan's psych-folk classic 'Get Thy Bearings'.

'Late Night Tales: Bonobo' is set to be released on November 17th.
