U2

Universities are going crazy for musicians this week, as Bono and McCartney both get honorary degrees.

U2 frontman Bono has received an honorary degree for his contribution to music and humanitarian causes from Keio University in Japan. The singer was greeted by a rapturous response from students at the university as he collected the award yesterday (May 27th).

The singer gave a 40-minute lecture to over a thousand students at the ceremony urging Japan to play a greater role in funding and organizing African development. Bono is currently in Japan to attend the fourth Tokyo International conference on Africa Development.

Sir Paul McCartney was presented with an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Yale University earlier in the week, where the university’s band greeted McCartney with the Beatles hit ‘Hey Jude’ as he collected the honour in Connecticut.

The American university paid tribute to the former Beatles' songwriting and said that McCartney had helped to awaken a generation.
