Bob Mould For ATP
Anniversary bill mounts
The organisers of ATP are busy organising a special My Bloody Valentine curated edition, with Bob Mould and Swervedriver the latest to join the bill.
All Tomorrow's Parties is now approaching its tenth anniversary. It has now been ten years since the epochal Bowlie Weekender, ten years in which received notions about what a festival is, and what it can achieve, have been turned on its head.
Now stretching around the world with instalments due to in New York and Australia, ATP has become a modern benchmark. With eclectic, lovingly prepared bills and a unique holiday camp site the festival has earned a place in the hearts of thousands of music fans.
This December ATP organisers are preparing to host two events. One will see My Bloody Valentine curate a bill, with the other selecting a program to celebrate ten years of the festival.
My Bloody Valentine are a legendary live act. The walls of the Butlins Holiday Camp in Minehead will rarely have heard such a demented racket, with the group famed for their excruciatingly loud live shows.
Yet beneath the feedback and volume lie moments of rare beauty, with the band's 1991 masterpiece 'Loveless' showcasing their sonic invention. Joining My Bloody Valentine on the bill for December's instalment are fellow shoegaze legends Swervedriver.
Formed in Oxford Swervedriver were amongst a wave of dream pop groups to emerge from the Thames Valley in the early 90s. With a much more pronounced rock influence Swervedriver were no floppy fringe bearing wimps, citing groups such as The Stooges as their primary inspiration.
The band went on hiatus in 1999 but emerged last year to play a series of low key re-union shows. Still as potent as ever, Swervedriver have lost none of their swirling charm.
Also due to play at the upcoming event is a genuine American rock legend. Bob Mould led Husker Du from hardcore obscurity to become one of the punk scenes most legendary groups.
Their masterpiece 'Zen Arcade' was a concept album long before Green Day resurrected the idea, and was famously recorded and mixed in a matter of days. Later finding semi-fame in the grunge boom with Sugar, Bob Mould later went solo and experimented with electronic music.
ATP: Nightmare Before Christmas is due to take place between December 4th - 6th.
