Blur Talk About Comeback Show

"Not a dry eye in the house"

Blur bass player Alex James has written about the band's comeback show on June 13th, claiming it was a hugely emotional event.

Blur split in 2003, following the departure of guitarist and founding member Graham Coxon. Since then the various members have embarked on hugely differing careers, with Alex James becoming a gentlemen farmer.

When not producing award winning cheese, the musician has also found time to pen his memoirs describing Blur's rise and subsequent split. Blur reformed at the end of last year, and recently played their first shows in some time.

The band played a surprise set at the launch of their new 'Best Of', leaping onstage to run through some old classics. Sure, they seemed a little rusty but hey - it was Blur and that's all that counts.

Blur followed this up with a concert in the East Anglian Railway Museum. Playing to just 150 people, the audience was made up primarily of friends and family members. The band are following in their early footsteps, retracing their path to fame.

"Not a dry eye in the house," Alex James wrote in his regular column in The Independent. "The sound of music I never thought I'd hear again, then home to this, the commemoration of everlasting love; love and music, the only enchantments we deserve or need."

Alex James went on to describe how he missed a wedding in order to play the show in Colchester.

"Not a dry eye in the house," he wrote. "The sound of music I never thought I'd hear again, then home to this, the commemoration of everlasting love; love and music, the only enchantments we deserve or need."

Blur are set to play a number of much larger dates. The band will play a two night stint in London's Hyde Park, with a specially chosen support cast. Moving up to Manchester, Blur are also set to play a number of festivals.

The group are due to play a headline slot at Glastonbury this summer, with a no doubt emotional set up their sleeve. Following this Blur are due to play sets at T In The Park and Oxegen.

Blur's UK tour begins at Southend Cliff Pavilion on June 21st.
