Dave Rowntree not hopeful of victory

Blur drummer turned politician Dave Rowntree has played down his chances of becoming an MP at the next election.

Since Blur split in 2003 the members have gone on to have very different careers. While Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon have each continued with very successful solo projects, others have gone down a different route.

Bass player Alex James has become a gentleman farmer, with the musician making a living through his award winning brand of cheese.

Drummer Dave Rowntree, meanwhile, has entered politics. Currently studying to become a barrister, the former Blur star is also on the campaign trail.

A well known member of the Labour party Dave Rowntree is set to stand for the Cities of London And Westminster constituency - long regarded as a Conservative party safe seat.

Speaking to The Guardian, Dave Rowntree admitted that the campaign process is a "slog".

"I'm not a betting man, but if I was, even I wouldn't bet on me winning," he said.

"Activism is by its nature a slog, but it depends why you're doing it… I'm seeing where the problems are in my neighbourhood and trying to sort them out."

It wasn't an entirely negative experience, however. "The best part is knocking on doors and offering help."

Re-uniting for a series of shows over the summer, Blur currently have no plans to do anything else. Speaking to the NME Graham Coxon revealed that: "Everyone's slipped back into what they do when the Blur creature isn't heaving around. Law and cheese and music, I suppose".
