...and blast the organisers

Blur have decided to cancel their appearance at upcoming Australian festival Big Day Out.

Blur’s reformation has sparked an outpouring of affection for the group, with showpiece gigs – such as last summer’s Olympic Games show in Hyde Park – drawing countless thousand fans.

Setting their sights on Australia, the band were due to perform at Big Day Out. However a disagreement with the organisers has led to Blur decided to cancel their appearance.

In a statement, the band said:

Devastated to report that Blur won't be performing at BDO in 2014. It’s a shock that it has come to this.
Only 8 weeks to go, the band feels that with the constantly shifting goalposts and challenging conditions of the organisers, they can't let it drag on any longer and want to make this announcement, to be clear to Blur fans that they won't be there. We've done our very best to work with the organisers and considered every option to make it happen, but they’ve let us down and let everyone else down too.

With just eight weeks to go, the organisers are perhaps understandably frustrated. In a posting, the team behind Big Day Out said:

"We were disappointed to learn of Blur's cancellation via their Facebook page yesterday morning. We are working on replacements and will bring you new additions to the Big Day Out lineup shortly."

Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah invested in the festival earlier this year, and revealed his disappointment during a discussion on Twitter. "Everyone at BDO is absolutely devastated and confused,” he wrote. "I've been around for a month [with the BDO] and in that time all I've seen is everyone trying to keep them happy ... Far as I know BDO gave into every demand within the possibility of curfews & public safety.” (via SMH)
