Bloc Party Video Request
Fans asked to provide footage
Indie giants Bloc Party are set to film an unusual new video after asking fans to film the footage for them.
Bloc Party are due to play a two night stint at London's Olympia venue this weekend (April 11th - 12th) and have decided to film their new video their. The band want fans to record their performances of the song 'Ares' on both nights, with the results being blended into a video.
Fans can send the footage to the band directly at: ares@blocparty.com.
There is no stipulation as to what the performance should be recorded on, so don't worry if you don't have professional equipment. Fans have been invited to record the shows on anything they like - including mobiles phones and cameras.
There is no restriction on how much of the song is recorded, or even where in the audience they are filming from. In fact, the more unusual the recording the better, but just make sure you don't end up filming the bloke in front's head!
Bloc Party aren't the first group to attempt something like this. Rap giants The Beastie Boys documented a tour in this fashion, interspersing their own footage with fan's recordings of shows from around the world.
'Ares' is taken from last year's album 'Intimacy'. A controversial release, it showed Bloc Party experimenting with their sound, including elements of electronic music in a greater fashion than ever before.
The group found renewed favour with remixers, with many tracks from the album becoming dancefloor hits. Bloc Party have gathered the best of these remixes on forthcoming album 'Intimacy - Remixed'.
This is the first time Bloc Party have released their remixes as a full scale album. Previously, the band have issued Japanese only remix collection which were only available to British fans on import.
Bloc Party release 'Intimacy Remixed' on May 11th. Amongst the cast of remixers are Mogwai, Filthy Dukes and Herve.
