Billy Bragg To Re-Issue Debut Album

'Life's a Riot with Spy Vs Spy' to be expanded
Life's a Riot with Spy Vs Spy

Billy Bragg is set to re-issue his debut album 'Life's a Riot with Spy Vs Spy' in time for its 30th anniversary.

By the time Billy Bragg came to record his debut album, the Barking songwriter had already lived a life. A spell in the army was accompanied by his time in pub rockers Riff Raff, whose exposure to The Clash left a profound impression on Private Bragg.

Leaving the armed forces behind, Billy Bragg faced the same problems as the rest of his generation. Soaring unemployment led to reduced opportunities, with the aspiring songwriter unable to find the cohorts to flesh out his fledgling material.

Opting to go solo, debut album 'Life's a Riot with Spy Vs Spy' remains a remarkable piece of work. Lasting for a mere 17 minutes, it was classed as an album rather than an EP and bristles with the sense of a desperate talent seizing his opportunity with both hands.

Re-issued in time for its 30th anniversary, 'Life's a Riot with Spy Vs Spy' will be expanded with a second disc recorded at the Union Chapel. Matching man against boy, aspiring talent against established icon, the twin discs bookend three decades in the life of one of the country's finest songwriters.

Billy says: "'Life’s a Riot with Spy vs Spy' has a very special place in my heart, being the first step on a 30 year journey that has seen me travel to places that I could never have imagined back in ’83. Also, as it’s only 17 minutes long, I can knock the whole album out as an encore if the fancy takes me - no need to book the Royal Albert Hall and the London Symphony Orchestra".

In keeping with the ‘Pay No More Than £2.99’ slogan that appeared on the original sleeve, the album will be available at a special 'Pay No More Than' price from iTunes of £2.49 for the original seven track re-mastered album and £3.49 for the 30th Anniversary Edition, for pre-orders and during the first week of release.
