Biffy Clyro Talk Puzzle
Record makes singer's wife "cringe"
Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro have spoken about their new album, admitting that some songs make their wife "cringe".
Biffy Clyro formed at Stow College in Glasgow, the same institute that spawned Belle & Sebastian. Musically poles apart, the two bands do share something in common - both have scored success through persistence and hard work.
The Ayrshire trio recently returned with their new album 'Puzzle'. A huge hit it spawned a Top Ten single and became one of the soundtracks to the summer with Biffy Clyro playing a series of festival slots.
ClashMusic caught the band in action at RockNess, and while their scorching guitars may thrill fans the tender heart of their songwriting is often missed. In a new interview singer Simon Neil admits that the group's new album is deeply personal.
"The album is a bit of a love story - well, love story - I don't know if it's got a happy ending yet. It's about me and my wife so it's kind of a relationship record. Some songs make her cringe a wee bit but that's the curse of her being married to me unfortunately."
"It's about the kind of personal revolutions you have to go through to survive in this world."
Having moved from cult heroes to chart sensations in the space of a few years, the Biffy Clyro singer admits that it is sometimes tough to keep their feet on the ground.
"We try and keep ourselves in the headspace of being teenage rock fans and being teenagers in the band. I think in rock music it's important to have a youthful mind and a youthful heart" the singer told BBC 6Music.
"That's what rock 'n' roll is isn't it? It's about young people and we're vastly outgrowing our years."
