Beyonce Releases New Album

Well, this is a surprise...

Beyonce has shocked fans by released a brand new self-titled album.

Perhaps the biggest pop star on the planet, Beyonce's every move is catalogued in neat precision by the world's media. So it's heartening, then, to see the American performer completely sidestep the accepted record release routine.

Working on new material, Beyonce simply decided to release her fifth solo album immediately. Self-titled, 'Beyonce' is out now via iTunes, containing fourteen songs and seventeen videos.

Billed as a "visual album" the singer explained: "I see music… It’s more than just what I hear. When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they’re all connected to the music."

Beyonce also spoke about her decision to release the new album with no build up. "I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it… I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans."

The singer has also crafted a short filmed documentary based on the new album – watch part one of 'Self-Titled' HERE.
