Beck To Cover Velvet Underground

New covers series launched

Beck has never been one to rest on his laurels, and the songwriter has revealed plans to record a series of album - in just one day.

Born into an artistic family, Beck was musical from an early age. Playing acoustic guitar in public parks the songwriter was entranced by American folk music, learning ramshackle interpretations of old standards.

Becoming a coffee house hit, Beck was snapped up by a major label. However he had a loophole in his contract which allowed him to release an album via hip Olympia label K Records.

A collection of folk influenced material 'One Foot In The Grave' was Beck's farewell to his musical education. Ahead of him lay 'Loser', 'Odelay' and some mind boggling - yet pretty fun - excursions into white boy funk.

The singer recently returned to 'One Foot In The Grave', re-issuing the album in a deluxe format. Click HERE to read our review!

Beck last released an original album with 'Modern Guilt' in 2008, but it seems that fans will soon be getting ready for a host of covers material.

Beck is currently revamping his website, introducing a range of new features with one being called Record Club. Featuring the singer covering a series of famous albums, it is set to include guest appearances from a wide range of stars.

In a twist Beck will only allow the musicians to meet on the day of recording, and the album must be finished and in the can at the end of the day. The songwriter has decided to kick off the series himself and will record the whole of 'The Velvet underground And Nico'.

ClashMusic isn't sure if Beck can play the viola, or if he'll attempt Nico's vocal parts by himself but it will be fun to find out.

Beck's Record Club is set to star a range of talents including Devendra Banhart, MGMT, Jamie Lidell, and producer Nigel Godrich.

Beck is due to release each track from the collaboration singularly, with the songs emerging once a week. The Record Club series is due to begin next month.
